Over the years I have met many people who love something once they see it in its place. Nothing is wrong with you if you don’t have an eye for design, style, or knowing what you love until you see it in place.
I have spent decades restyling my home with the simplest of items. A hand-sewn quilt, a few throw pillows, a colored candle, plants, a newly framed photo, and more. The art of styling and design does not have to be complicated but at times it can feel this way if your life is busy and the outside world makes demands. Often the yearning to change a space hits me as almost other worldly. If stores are closed when this happens, I go shopping around the home. If they are open, I will often put a few key items in my cart. They almost speak to me, asking me to bring them into my space.
The world around us and in us is made of energy. This energy continues to move and flow as long as nothing is blocking it. The same is true for Mother Nature, our homes, and our bodies.
Learning what you love takes time. Learning who you are at your core takes time. We are surrounded by a culture that tells us who we should be, leaving us no time to explore for ourselves. Asking for help to do what feels impossible in the moment does not make you less than. It shows you desire more but require some guidance to begin.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help to design your space. The right stylist and proper pieces will give you the fresh feeling you need to begin again.
Often after an illness or a hardship, I will remake a space to shake up the energy to bring new life. This is a helpful practice and one I hope you implement into your own life.
